In many cases, garden buildings fall under permitted development rights and won't need planning permission, provided they meet height, footprint, and boundary distance rules. However, this depends on your property, local council, and whether you live in a conservation area or listed building. We recommend checking with your local planning authority before installation, as rules vary by location and it's your responsibility to confirm compliance.

Your log cabin or outdoor kitchen needs a firm, level, and well-drained base before delivery, typically a concrete slab, paving slabs, or a timber deck rated for the structure's weight. The base should be prepared and fully cured in advance of your delivery date. Exact base size and specification depend on the model you order, so check your product page or ask us for the base guide before you begin groundwork.

Our products don't include utility installation. Any electrics, plumbing, or gas connections should be carried out by a qualified, certified electrician, plumber, or Gas Safe registered engineer, in line with local building regulations. We recommend planning your utility runs before your base is laid, since cabling or pipework is easiest to install underneath or alongside the foundation.

Depending on the model, our fire pits and patio heaters run on wood, propane/LPG gas, or natural gas, and each product page lists its fuel type and clearance requirements. Wood-burning fire pits generally need a heat-resistant base and should not be placed directly on a timber deck; gas models are cooler-running but should still be used on a fire-resistant mat or paved area, following the clearance distances in the product manual.

Our log cabins and outdoor kitchens are supplied as build-it-yourself kits with full instructions, and most are straightforward for a competent DIYer or a couple of extra hands to assemble over a weekend. Larger items like log cabins and outdoor kitchens are delivered by pallet or kerbside courier using a large vehicle, so you'll need clear, level access from the road to your installation site, including width for gates and driveways. Standard deliveries are typically kerbside drop-off only; the driver won't usually carry items into your garden. Check the delivery details on your product page and let us know in advance if access is tight so we can advise.

Timber cabins should be treated with a quality wood preservative or stain before first use and re-treated every 1-2 years, paying close attention to joints, roof edges, and the base, where moisture collects. Metal fixtures, fire pits, and patio heaters benefit from a breathable cover when not in use, and any exposed metal should be wiped dry after rain and checked periodically for rust. Following the care guide included with your product will help it hold up through the seasons.

Many of our cabins can be used year-round, but comfort in colder months depends on wall thickness, insulation, and whether you add heating. Thicker-walled cabins (44mm+) retain heat better and can be insulated and heated for winter use, while thinner summer houses are best suited to three-season use. Fire pits and patio heaters are a great way to extend outdoor kitchen and seating areas into the cooler months, check each product's specification for insulation and heat-retention details.
